A Smarter Approach to Signal Geometry
The Eddie Twist® (named after our headphone-wearing snake mascot) is a unique winding technique we developed to dramatically enhance performance, particularly in speaker and power cables. It’s not just clever engineering; it’s a major sonic upgrade.
This method maximizes two critical aspects of cable design:
- Surface conductivity (related to the skin effect)
- Dielectric purity (i.e., keeping the insulator out of the signal path)
More Surface, Less Interference
Most multi-strand cables bundle all conductors and twist them together at once. That creates a tight core where much of the metal surface ends up directly contacting neighboring strands, which increases eddy currents and internal interference.
Our Eddie Twist method takes a different approach: We twist each pair individually, then twist those pairs together. The result is a far more open structure with more usable surface area exposed to air, not compressed against other metal. That significantly reduces induced noise and maximizes the skin-effect benefit at audio frequencies.
Letting Air Do the Work
Every cable needs a dielectric, some form of non-conductive material to keep the wires from touching. But here’s the problem: most dielectric materials absorb part of your signal. They store and release energy, smearing transients and masking fine detail.
The best dielectric isn’t Cotton, Polyethylene, Teflon or PVC. It’s air.
If you could run bare conductors from amp to speaker suspended in midair, that would be ideal. Not very practical, though.
So we did the next best thing: we designed a geometry that naturally creates an 85%+ air dielectric around the signal conductors.
Think of a triangle inside of a circle. The only place that triangle is touching the circle is on the three points. But I take that idea and go even a step further. I made that circle slightly bigger. Now, that triangle will only ever touch the circle on two points, giving the wire an even greater air dielectric.
